Hamzat To Unveil Lagos Gov’ship Agenda October 30
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, will unveil his policy agenda for the 2027 election on October 30, with his campaign council promising a development blueprint focused on inclusive growth, improved public services and continuity of governance.
Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, disclosed this on Sunday at a press conference at the campaign office on Sobo Arobiodu Street, Government Residential Area, Ikeja.
The manifesto presentation, scheduled for the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, will provide Hamzat with an opportunity to outline his proposed solutions to the challenges confronting the state and explain how he intends to sustain its development trajectory if elected governor.
The event will hold between 3pm and 5pm, with arrivals expected from 11am.
Obanikoro said the campaign’s central priorities were continuity and inclusivity, arguing that Lagos needed leadership capable of preserving existing development gains while addressing gaps in infrastructure, transportation, housing, healthcare, education, security and environmental management.
However, the specific policies, targets and commitments Hamzat intends to pursue are expected to become clearer when the manifesto is formally unveiled.
According to the campaign director-general, Lagos’ growing population and economic importance make effective planning and experienced leadership imperative to sustaining its competitiveness and improving residents’ quality of life.
He noted that the state’s development over the years had benefited from the contributions of successive administrations, including those of former governors Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, as well as the incumbent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He maintained that Hamzat’s proposed administration would build on the foundations laid by these governments while identifying areas requiring improvement.
“Continuity is not about doing things the same way simply because they have been done before. It is about protecting what works, correcting what needs improvement and building on existing progress,” Obanikoro said.
He acknowledged that despite Lagos’ achievements in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, urban development and the creative economy, the state continued to face significant challenges arising from its expanding population and complex development needs.
With Lagos estimated at about 25 million residents in the address, Obanikoro said the state required a development strategy that could accommodate population growth without compromising economic productivity and residents’ welfare.
He identified Hamzat’s background in engineering, private-sector experience and years in public office as important assets for managing the state’s development priorities.
Hamzat earned a doctorate in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University, England, at the age of 28 and subsequently worked with international financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Citibank in the United States, before entering public service.
His experience as a commissioner in Lagos and later as deputy governor, Obanikoro said, had equipped him with an understanding of public administration, economic management and the demands of governing a diverse and commercially strategic state.
He added that Hamzat would draw on his experience in the Sanwo-Olu administration, particularly in transportation, road infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing and support for businesses and young people.
Beyond continuity, Obanikoro said the campaign was committed to ensuring that governance reflected the interests of residents across different social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
He disclosed that the campaign council had consulted religious leaders, traditional rulers, market women, traders, young people, professionals, artisans, community leaders and other stakeholders across the state.
The consultations, he explained, were designed to incorporate residents’ concerns and aspirations into the campaign’s policy priorities.
“Lagos belongs to all of us,” he said, stressing that every resident and taxpayer had a stake in the state’s future, while the heritage and interests of its indigenous communities must be respected and preserved.
He added that inclusivity meant ensuring that government policies responded to the needs of residents irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender, social status or place of origin.
The manifesto launch is expected to provide a clearer picture of how Hamzat intends to translate these broad commitments into specific policies and programmes ahead of the February 6, 2027 governorship election.
Obanikoro invited party members, stakeholders, journalists and members of the public to follow the presentation, although physical attendance would be restricted to invited guests because of limited seating.
He said the event would be broadcast live on Channels Television, ARISE News, TVC, Lagos Television and News Central between 3pm and 5pm, alongside the campaign’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram platforms.
The campaign also plans to make the manifesto available for download after the presentation to enable residents to examine its proposals and submit feedback through appropriate party channels.
Obanikoro described the launch as an opportunity for Hamzat to explain his vision for Lagos and demonstrate how his proposed administration would sustain development while addressing outstanding challenges.
“The message of this campaign is clear: Lagos, let us move forward together,” he said.
