Bolt Signs For Non-League English Football Team

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt has officially registered to play for Wythenshawe FC Veterans, a star-studded over-35s Sunday League team in Greater Manchester that competes in the Cheshire Veterans League.

Managed by former Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland, the amateur team features an extraordinary lineup of former Premier League and international stars.

Past and present squad members boast over 1,800 top-flight English league appearances combined.

Former Manchester City players Joleon Lescott and Nedum Onuoha; former Manchester United title winner Antonio Valencia; Leicester City Premier League winner Marc Albrighton; ex-England striker Emile Heskey; and former Newcastle forward Papiss Cissé are among the stars who once played at the very top of the game, who have appeared for the side, and who play in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans Football League.

Other former stars signed up for the current campaign include Maynor Figueroa, Jefferson Montero, Kieran Westwood, Paul McShane, Adrian Mariappa, Oumar Niasse, and Martyn Waghorn.

Bolt, a renowned Manchester United fan, previously tried to break into professional football following his retirement from track and field, notably training with the Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2018.

While his official registration appears on the FA Full-Time registration system, an exact date for his debut with the Wythenshawe veterans has not yet been locked in.
